Workshop and performance dates, times and all arrangements are vital to the success of this exciting caravan tour. This is an exceptional opportunity in the HERE AND NOW. So much energy and inspiration is being generated to make this happen. We are doing this only once (and we havent done it yet). We need your assistance!
Opportunity is knocking at your door today!!
So often sponsors invite Delilah to teach and perform, but fearing the cost of airfare as too expensive, the sponsor usually defaults to recorded music. Its very frustrating for an artist who wants to work with integrity; its the live music that brings magic to what she has to offer. (Ask anyone who has attended a Visionary Belly Dancing Maui retreat, where even the classes have live music!)
So LOOK OUT, here she comes . . . with Sirocco!
If we all work together, this can happen!
LOST ARTS
With this tour, we are creating a chance to see and experience a quality of belly dance that is being lost to America these days.
That being:
THE SEVEN PART CABARET BELLY DANCE ROUTINE
This is where the dancers and musicians push the envelope during performance, and transport YOU to their realm of art, magic, music, dance . . . and beyond! In the 70s and 80s, a typical night club show was 30 to 45 minutes long. Now, there are very few venues for professional dancers to perform for more than 6-7 minutes. In the longer forms of bellydance, different mind-body chemistry and modes of expression emerge, those which artists are not able to attain or develop a mere 6-7 minutes. (see article on 7 part routine). Our caravan show will feature Delilah, Sirocco, and special guest dances by Delilah's daughter Laura Rose, our sponsors if they so desire, and perhaps a couple other guests. We are looking forward to taking you on a dance and music adventure!
MUSIC
In our music workshops we want to seed more interest towards folks playing the live instruments that are traditionally used in the dance. This way we will all have more live music available for belly dancing. The relationship between dancer and musician is truly an art. When a musician plays for a dancer it is a very different experience for the musician. When a dancer dances with a musician it is a very different experience for the dancer. When we as audience witness this creative interplay it is a very different experience as well. Only by experiencing these things can be know and uphold the appreciation for these arts in our culture.
The drums: dumbek, table baladi, deff, riq cymbals and sistrum
The breath instruments: the ney, zorna and mizwiz clarinet, oboe
The strings: oud, violin, saz, bass, rebaba, cymbulum, kanoon, harp, keyboards
DRUM WORKSHOP... Uncle Mafufo is an inspiring master at teaching drum and percussion workshops for dancers and musicians. Many have discovered how beneficial and therapeutic playing a drum can be for body, mind, and balance. A dancers dance ability will under go big changes when a deeper understanding for the construction of music and rhythm is cultivated. Husbands and friends love to participate in the dance with their partners and playing a drum is a wonderful way.
NEY WORKSHOP... Sulyman El Coyote can lead a class on how to make a proper nye out of PVC. Every one will make an instrument in this class and begin to make the breath sing through the reed flute. It is said the ney represents the human body in which the inspiration of life passes through. To learn to play the ney is a very soulful path.
PRIVATE LESSONS... Uncle Mafufo and Sulyman El Coyote are available for private lessons and coaching by advanced appointment. All interested persons can contact Delilah and she will help make arrangements.
BELLY DANCE WORKSHOPS WITH DELILAH... All sorts of offerings... see Workshop Menu Page.

RESPONSIBILITY OF SPONSORS
To bring these artists to your community and use their talents to you best advantage.
To creatively support, design, organize, promote Belly Dance, Drum and Music Workshops and performances venues.
The events you choose to create can be simple. Sirocco and Delilah work best in intimate settings rather than big theater stages. A small theater with 150 seats, a hotel banquet room, community space or an Odd Fellows Hall is fine. Discuss your ideas with Delilah.
The sponsor will pay a deposit of $500 to reserve dates on the Visionary Belly Dance East Coast tour. (refundable, see details under terms below)
The sponsor researches and reserves performance and workshop venues with deposits and contracts.
The sponsor is solely responsible for the event. Delilah and Sirocco need accountability and can advise, but cannot micro manage.
The sponsor will collect and provide accounting for all money (unless they want Visionary Dance to accept credit cards, which may be arranged in some cases).
The sponsor pays for the expenses of producing these events: rentals, sound, lights, promotion, etc.
The sponsor shall prepare quality mailings for their event and distribute them to their own databases and to the addresses that Delilah provides from the Visionary Dance database. E-mail and phone trees are additional avenues, but should not be relied upon as the first line of advertising.
The sponsor shall provide press release information to all belly dance web bulletin boards in their area, and to local belly dance newsletters. Its best to do all diplomatic correspondence by mail and/or phone.
The sponsor shall keep Visionary Dance Productions informed via e-mail about all steps in the process of producing the event.
The sponsor retains 30% of the revenue generated from teaching and performing, and promises to turn over 70% of all workshops and performance revenue. The Early Bird special for CDs, zills or meals offered as an inclusion or to encourage early registration is a hard cost expense and comes off the top of the workshop price tag. This portion is sent to Visionary Dance, Sulyman or Uncle Mafufu at the time of the order. The 70/30 split is figured on the workshop fee minus the cost of the hard costs .
Example: per registration of $58 with CD = $58 less $8= $50 split 70/30. The $8 dollars is sent to VDP up front.
(see more details on this below).
SHOWS
The price for the show is agreed upon. The sponsor may add a fee if a dinner or lunch is included. Dinner or lunch is considered a hard cost and comes off the top before the 70 /30 split.
Example: workshop $70 plus hard cost lunch $9.98 = 79.98 (70/30 is out of $70).
The sponsor will arrange and assume the expense of hosting the caravans food and lodging for the dates of the events only. This is either by hotel or home stays within the belly dance community for all members of the caravan. (See requirements below for home stay accommodations).
The sponsor will make sure the sound and lights are handled professionally.
Sirocco may carry a small amp, but if larger systems are required, this is the responsibility and expense of the sponsor. Lighting is often overlooked; it will be aimed properly at the dance floor. Sometimes there is a problem in nightclubs where the lights are aimed at the stage but the dancer is on a lower level dance floor.
The sponsor may not video tape any workshop. Shows may be video taped by sponsor with permission for memorabilia but not sold unless negotiated.
The sponsor will provide:
4 vending tables to the Caravan at shows and workshops
TV/VCR, (we love to share some never-before released footage)
CD Player and sound system for classes
Chalk Board or dry erase board
Before the promotion is printed the cost of workshops and performances will be set by Delilah, Sirocco and the sponsor by assessing the size of the space and the number of participants it can accommodate. This may vary from place to place.
All address, phone and email data of participants is owned and managed jointly by sponsor and Visionary Dance exclusively and will not be passed on to other organizations.
Special requirements for dance workshop: wood floors are best, and should be able to facilitate at least 40+ dancers with space for performers to set up their vending tables (3-4). Mirrors are nice, but not necessary. Best if we have a quiet space, and no observers. Everyone present should be formally enrolled in the workshop. Drum workshops are loud! Be sure you consider that when planning your drum classes.
OTHER POTENTIAL REVENUE FOR THE SPONSOR
Vending by sponsor
The sponsor may want to rent tables to other vendors.
This should not exceed 4 others, including the sponsor, unless discussed, to avoid cutting into the revenue of the caravan.
Programs, mailers and news bulletins are often offset (and actually profit-making) by selling advertising space to vendors.
REASONS TO SPONSOR
Because you love Delilah and Sirocco!
Because you want to support the important experience of Live Performance and Live Music in your community!
Because you recognize the value of Delilahs teaching and philosophy and the fabulous contributions Sirocco have made to dancers through their music.
Because you recognize that the experience of witnessing these special folks in action will impact your students, friends, associates and community, and all will be the juicier for it!
Because this is a fabulous opportunity to make some money with little risk or overhead how could you pass it up?!
TERMS
This is a large undertaking for Visionary Dance. We want to build a successful tour with seriously interested folks.
Deposit
To reserve dates and commit to being a sponsor, Delilah asks for a $500 deposit be paid to Visionary Dance Productions. This money is refundable at the completion of the event as long as revenues raised and due Delilah (70%) are a minumum of at least $500. This is really not a lot to ask; 20 students paying $40 more than covers this minimum, and we all know we can and will do much better than that. The going rate for most workshops is $40 - $60. The deposit is important because it will be used by Visionary Dance to buy plane tickets, secure rental cars, pay web masters and place ads in magazines, insuring the sucess of the event.
In the event the sponsor doesnt mount a successful event, Visionary Dance may keep up to 100% of the deposit. This is to ensure success, confidence and make sure the caravan doesnt get stuck on the road somewhere.
ACTS OF GOD
We all take a risk at times. If an extreme natural occurrence or accident should interfere with the success of this contract held in good faith, (God and Goddess forbid that anything should happen on either side), the deposit would be forfeited up to 50 % back to promoter and 50% retained by Visionary Dance.
THE 70/30 SPLIT
The Sponsor gets 30% of the revenue of show or workshop, out of which they pay their expenses for mounting events
Each Teacher receives 70% of their class revenues.
The exception is for hard costs of including a meal in an event or utilizing the Early Bird CD Perk. These are deducted before 70/30 split is calculated.
Tickets, Cover, Workshop prices are to be negotiated between sponsor and Visionary Dance Productions. May vary with location, class length and content. Our examples are just examples, not definite suggestions for prices.
Sponsor does publicity, rents the space and provides and arranges food and accommodations for performers during events.
Examples of split:
3.5 hours 45 students $48 = $2,160; 30%= 648, 70%=$1512
3.5 hours 45 students $55 = $2,475; 30%=742.50, 70%=1732.50
The artists love to party and converse, but will also be on the road for a while. Simple hotels, with room service availability, when affordable, are appreciated. However, home stays are fun and appreciated too. Each host must have private space for at least 2 persons to share clean and comfortable bed and bath. Please, no fold-out couches or floor futons.
DANCE WORKSHOP PRICE TAG
Workshops may range in price. A good base to follow is the going rate in the area for a 4-hour workshop with a 15% addition if live music is part of the class. If the class space is very small, then it may be cheaper, and shorter; back-to-back workshops can be offered.
Example: Thursday Class # 1: 6:00-7:30; Class #2: 8:00-9:30
VISIONARY DANCE AND SIROCCO RESPONSIBILITY AND OVERHEAD.
We will pay for air fare transportation (a bit pricey since we are flying one way from some destinations)
We will pay rental car transportation x 2

THE EARLY BIRD PERKS!!!
People love to get something physical when they show up for a workshop. We find it increases the value and is a great tool for getting participants to register early. This in turn makes the job easier for the sponsor and instructors to know that everything is running on schedule! Thus we have come up with a CD offer to those who sign up early. Everyone loves music; this works like a charm! The cost of the CD are $16.50 - $18 and wholesale value is usually $10.50-11.50. For this offer the CD's will be valued at $8.50 including postage (below wholesale value) and deducted off the top of the workshop before the 70/30 split is calculated. (The sponsor may order extra CD's at this time and price for sale later if they want to) When the Early Bird deadline is reached the money is sent to either Visionary Dance or Sirocco Headquarters and the appropriate CD's are sent to the sponsor to be handed out to participants upon arriving to the workshop. It makes for a successful workshop and everyone wins!
Example
Early Bird Special Savings!!!: Receive a free CD when registered before deadline.
Four Hour Belly Dance Workshop price $58 plus choice of 3 CD's
Four Hour Belly Dance Workshop after deadline: $68, CD $18
Music Selection
Tales of the Night Wind
Welcome to the Dance
Rapture Rumi
(Maybe a new one)
Uncle Mafufo will also make the same arrangement with his workshop and CD's
In the case of Sulyman's Zill Workshop we would like to include the cost of a small set of exquisite brass finger cymals ($35), in the cost for the 90 minute workshop. The finger cymbals would come off the top and the cost of the workshop would be figured at 70% for the instructor and 30% for sponsor (for example, if the price of the workshop was $60, the student would get finger cymbals included in this price, and the instructor and sponsor would divide the difference, $25). Sulyman needs to know in advance to be sure he has enough cymbals. They are all hand made.
