Delilahs philosophy is that belly dance is an empowering art form that helps women get in touch with their bodies and can enhance their personal sense of self esteem. This is a message fully understood and supported in every way by Steven Flynn. The original two-volume set of Delilah's Bellydance Workshop caught fire across the country through advertisements and mail order sales in belly dancer trade publications. The two volume set was one of the first in the first generation of special interest instructional videos. Such videos offer a specific community of people specific kinds of information or entertainment they are interested in, though it may be more simply presented compared to the usual Hollywood productions. The artists can often have more control over their subject matter and its presentation than they would if Hollywood or other strictly commercial interests got involved in the production and tried to market it for mass consumption. Hollywood often adds polish but not substance to the understanding of specialized material, primarily, in this case, because they are more interested in profit than in understanding the subject and its importance to the feminine psyche.
