She made her own costume figuring she'd probably sell it
after the project was over. Once she started dancing in it
though, the dance began to click for her. She went beyond
the call of what was required for her project and presented
her own bellydance debut to her fellow classmates. The
newspapers came and interviewed her and her picture
appeared in the paper. Bridget's project was one of the
most successful Senior Class projects of the class of 97!
The more she saw, read and experienced the dance the
more Bridget became intrigued. During the three months
she logged in over 200 hours and took a workshop with
Amel and Salah from Algeria when they came through
Seattle. In three months time she did amazingly well and
proved to be a great help for one of our class performance
projects. My class participates in the Fremont Solstice
Parade every year, costumed and choreographed. When it
came time to work out our parade routines, Bridget's drill
team experience came in very handy for us all.

Bridget Jordan's presentation:
Bridget remarked how much her own misconceptions
about the dance changed and how she was able to inform
and enlighten others to the many dimensions of the dance.
On one occasion she had a remarkable conversation with a
friend's grandfather who thought bellydance was "upscale
strip tease;" although he had seen it, he had not paid any
attention. After talking with Bridget (who looks very
angelic by the way) he said he was anxious for an oppor-
tunity to see the dance through his new found eyes.
"Bellydance is a beautiful and wondrous art. It has the
power to captivate the body, mind and soul in one instant.
But more important it has the ability to translate 1000
words into a single move which then because it is of dance
and therefore like music a universal language. It cannot be
bound by the barriers of language and culture."
