Fremont Solstice Parade 2008
Why Pink Costumes?
We are dedicating our color selection to a powerful and uppity woman’s organization called CODEPINK. Belly dance is empowering and we are going to use our belly power and our multitudes to populate the parade route with pink.
I have always had a problem with the organizational theme behind a group called "Women in Black" (also a peace organization doing good work). However, I always felt they looked disenfranchised and abused. Women all over the world wear black in order to hide and be pushed back in society, not to step forward and make changes. Codepink is made up of the everyday woman who cares about life, peace, and humanity in a vibrant sort of way. Take a look at their faces.
Aphrodite would not wear black. She would wrap herself in fragrant, colorful flowers that would arouse the senses. When she had your attention, she would lick delicious and nourishing honey from her finger tips and offer it freely to those around her. Her pinkness is pleasant, feminine, and charming. But beneath the fold she is a powerful Goddess that men bow to and answer her beck and call. We call for peace!.
I just think Aphrodite has a way better chance at building a better world, so pink it is! Remember, no words or signage can be used in the parade. So other than aligning our hearts and our color allegiance with pink, we are in the parade to dance and that’s what we are going to do!
COSTUMES:
Ok, so some of you are thinking you can't wear pink.
Oh yes you can! For one day make a show of pink. It's
not going to be hard. You can use any other color as
an accent as long as the over all feel of the costume
says 'Bright Hot Fuchsia Pink' at a glance. Take a look at the
Code Pink web site to get the idea. Tribal gals can use
black and silver. And beaded costumes can contrast a
hot pink swath of fabric over laying another color of
under skirt. Ghawazee coats can use pink and paint
stripes on them if need be!
Again, come to our opening day party night on Thursday
May 1st for the full game plan!
Don't miss the fun! There are 7 weeks of parade classes this year!
It's going to be powerful!
